Magnetic Island (Yunbenun) Community Action Plan

The consortium is an informal group that comprises Magnetic Island Community Development Association (MICDA), Magnetic Island Nature Care Association (MINCA) and Arcadia Coast Care (ACC).

Several small overlapping volunteer groups work within MINCA and MICDA to maintain the Island's special qualities. The Island's Traditional Owners, the Wulgurukaba people, Magnetic Island Network for Turtles (MINT) and Magnetic Island Fauna Care Organisation (MIFCO) are also part of this consortium.

It's vision is to empower groups and individuals to nurture, restore and protect Magnetic Island's outstanding social, ecological and cultural values for current and future generations.

The aim is to implement actions based on a 'whole-of-island' plan to promote and protect its Great Barrier Reef World Heritage values.

Under this consortium, funding was found for part of it's objectives, including the Our World Heritage Island Group.

The Community Action Plan (March 2021) is a significant document which we highly recommend you take the time to read. The diagram below is one of many road maps in the Plan, and offers a model for community-driven energy alternatives and energy efficiency.

Many of the current future-proofing working groups are a result of this plan.
